Cut Back on Your Grocery Bills
Here are some tips to save time and money at the grocery store without sacrificing health.
- Shop early and alone. When you shop earlier in the day, you get through the store faster and spend less. Also, when you shop alone you don’t have the "little helpers" that boost your bill.
- Set your shopping mood. You are more likely to reach for expensive snack foods if you’re tired or angry.
- Grocery stores are for groceries. Items such as painkillers, toothpaste and contact lens solution tend to be more expensive at grocery stores.
- Stick to the edges. Generally, healthy, less processed foods, such as dairy, fruits and meats are around the edges of the store. The main areas where you are walking tend to be scattered with high priced items so avoid such areas if possible.
- Give the shelves the once-over. Items the grocery stores most want to sell (usually the high priced brand named items) are on the shelves between knee and shoulder height. You can save up to 40% by buying house or generic brands.
