Cheaper Airline Fares

You may lower the price of a round trip air fare by as much as two-thirds by making certain your trip includes a Saturday evening stay over, and by purchasing the ticket in advance.
To make certain you have a cheap fare, even if you use a travel agent, contact all the airlines that fly where you want to go and ask what the lowest fare to your destination is.

7 Smart Ways To Spend Your Tax Refund

The average refund could be gone in a blink, or it could go a long way toward changing your future. Don’t worry -- you can blow some of it, too.

  • Blow (some of) it - frittering away 10% of any windfall as an incentive to be responsible with the rest.

  • Pay your credit cards - Paying your cards off, or at least down, will save you a big chunk of change and free up space on your cards for emergencies.

  • Fund your retirement - The problem is that you can't just dump your refund directly into a 401(k). But you can ask your human-resources department to increase your contribution from your paychecks.

  • Boost your emergency fund - And having a little spare cash on hand might help you avoid using credit cards to pay for the inevitable crises.

  • Contribute to a college fund - You can put up to $2,000 a year into a Coverdell Education Savings Account.

    Coupon Tip

    When you have a coupon that says "Save 1.00 on groceries when you buy ...." you can use a second coupon that is specifically for the product in the first coupon. It's legal because the first coupon is a discount on your groceries and the second coupon is for the product.

    As gas prices are skyrocketing we find ourselves digging deeper into our pockets in order to pay at the pump. Here we offer you ways to save.


    • Check the Internet – Sites like MSN Autos, GasBuddy.com and GasPriceWatch.com rely on volunteers or the stations themselves to post prices around the country.
    • Get Away from the Freeway – Buying gas from a station you spot on the interstate is a convenience that you pay for. If you drive a few blocks away from the highways you’ll probably find a drop in prices.
    • Use a Wholesale Club – Big warehouse stores like Costco and Sam’s Club typically have some of the lowest prices in town.
    • Consider a Gas Rebate Card – You’ll get the most generous cash-back offers initially if you’re brand loyal.
    • Use Legitimate Coupons – Gas stations with car washes may offer discount coupons; you can also check the coupon packets you get in the mail or the back of a grocery store receipt. Just be sure not to fall for telemarketing scams that offer you something like $200 for a small handling fee. The scammers are only interested in your bank account or credit card number.
